It’s non-porous, which is genuinely useful in a Florida kitchen where humidity and spills are facts of life. Granite still has a strong following, especially among homeowners who want that natural stone variation and are willing to do a little extra upkeep. Budget-wise, don’t try to save by going cheap on cabinet hardware and installation. A cabinet box that isn’t level or a door that doesn’t close cleanly will bother you every single day. This is one area where quality installation pays off immediately.

For kitchens specifically, waterproof flooring is the smart move. We’re talking luxury vinyl plank or tile. Both hold up against spills, humidity, and the foot traffic that a kitchen sees. Hardwood can work in kitchens, but it requires more care, and in Florida’s climate, solid hardwood in a kitchen is a decision you need to make with eyes open. Engineered hardwood is a better fit if you want that wood look.

What the Timeline Actually Looks Like
This is where a lot of homeowners get surprised. A full kitchen remodel is not a two-week project. Depending on scope, you’re typically looking at four to eight weeks from the time materials are ordered to the day the last installer walks out.
Here’s the general flow we work through:
First, we do a detailed measurement and design consultation. This is where we lock in cabinet dimensions, countertop material, flooring, and backsplash selections. Getting this stage right saves headaches down the line. Rushed decisions at the selection stage create problems during installation.
Materials then need to be ordered. Some cabinet lines have lead times. Countertops get templated after cabinets are installed, not before. That means there’s a natural sequence: cabinets go in, countertop template gets cut, slab gets fabricated, then countertops install. Flooring often happens in stages too, with rough work done before cabinets and finishing touches after.
The National Association of the Remodeling Industry recommends that homeowners budget 10-15% of their project cost as a contingency for surprises. We think that’s realistic advice. In older Tampa Bay homes especially, there can be subfloor issues or plumbing quirks that only reveal themselves once work begins.
Plan for inconvenience. Set up a temporary kitchen area if you can. It makes the process significantly less stressful.
